What’s green, brown, runs on clean alternative fuel, and delivers a message of the various benefits of bamboo? Why, none other than the BamVan, featuring in 2008’s Earthwork’s Earth Fair in San Diego. Owned and operated by none other than Bamboo Brother, Blaizy Blair, the fair was abuzz with curiosity and excitement over the bamboo-covered Chevy van. Bamboo Brother himself showed every interested person a tour of the vehicle and educated them about the uses of bamboo, which were clearly indicated on the large, framed signed, which were tacked all over the BamVan.
One such fact states “Thomas Edison used a carbonized bamboo filament to design the light bulb.” At first, I couldn’t believe it so it was right to the history books and, sure enough, he was right! I was amazed to find that not only had bamboo been apart of the creation of electrical lighting, but also that its tensile strength is even more than that of steel! Clearly, the educational and environmental benefits of this vehicle made it a hit! As aforementioned, other people have also indicated their interest in the BamVan, such as got2begreen.com:
“Now, comes Bamboo Power. The author of the site BambooPower.com and who sells information on the power and versatility of Bamboo, had some fun with the display van. Interestingly the display van is constructed out of bamboo, a panda and tiki torches…”
